The Gold Rush cocktail is as simple as it gets. It just needs three ingredients: bourbon, honey simple syrup, and lemon. This cocktail resembles a whiskey sour, except it takes honey simple instead of regular. There’s also no egg white in a Gold Rush, meaning it’s smoother and less fizzy. Don’t be mistaken, using bourbon instead of whiskey along with the addition of honey truly transforms this cocktail, giving it a taste different from a sour.
With a name like The Gold Rush, you would think this cocktail was created in California in the 1800s. The name actually comes from the color of the cocktail. It has a yellow to light orange hue. In reality, this cocktail originated from none other than New York City’s now-closed, famous cocktail bar, Milk & Honey, which opened in 1999. This cocktail became a classic at the notably menu-less bar by 2002 and within a of a decade after its creation, became a classic world-wide.
If you don’t have honey simple syrup, don’t worry. It’s easy and quick to make. All you need is water, honey, and 10 minutes of free-time.
